<title>Human cell texture analysis with quincunx spline wavelet transform</title>

1999

Wavelet transforms are efficient tools for texture analysis and classification. Separable techniques are classically used but present several drawbacks. First, diagonal coefficients contain poor information. Second, the other coefficients contain useful information only if the texture is oriented in the vertical and horizontal directions. So an approach of texture analysis by non-separable transform is proposed. An improved interscale resolution is allowed by the quincunx scheme and this analysis leads to only one detail image where no particular orientation is favored. New orthogonal isotropic filters for the decomposition are constructed by applying McClellan transform on one dimension B-…

A General Frame-by-Frame Wavelet Transform Algorithm for a Three-Dimensional Analysis with Reduced Memory Usage

2007

The 3D-DWT is a mathematical tool of increasing importance. However, the huge memory requirement of the algorithms that compute it is one of the main drawbacks in practical implementations. In this paper, we introduce a frame-by-frame algorithm to calculate the 3D-DWT with low memory usage. This algorithm is general, in the sense that it can be employed with any wavelet transform and, contrary to other proposals, it gets the same results as the regular wavelet transform. In addition, there is no need to divide the input video sequence into group of frames, and it can be applied in a continuous manner, so that coding efficiency is increased and no blocking artifacts appear.

Multiscale Edges Detection by Wavelet Transform for Model of Face Recognition

1996

Publisher Summary The linear auto-associator is a particular case of the linear-associator. The goal of this network is to associate a set of stimuli to itself, which could be used to store and retrieve face images and it also could be applied as a pre-processing device to simulate some psychological tasks—such as categorizing face according to their gender. A technique of learning based on the wavelet transform can improve recognition capability when the pattern images are with a great noise. One of the ways to store and recall face images uses the linear auto-associative memory. This connectionist model is in conjunction with a pixel-based coding of the faces. The image processing using t…

Improved color interpolation using discrete wavelet transform

2005

New approaches to Color Interpolation based on Discrete Wavelet Transform are described. The Bayer data are split into the three colour components; for each component the Wavelet Coefficient Interpolation (WCI) algorithm is applied and results are combined to obtain the final colour interpolated image. A further anti-aliasing algorithm can be applied in order to reduce false colours. A first approach consists of interpolating wavelet coefficients starting from a spatial analysis of the input image. It was considered an interpolation step based on threshold levels associated to the spatial correlation of the input image pixel. A second approach consists of interpolating wavelet coefficients …

Fractional wavelet transform

1997

The wavelet transform, which has had a growing importance in signal and image processing, has been generalized by association with both the wavelet transform and the fractional Fourier transform. Possible implementations of the new transformation are in image compression, image transmission, transient signal processing, etc. Computer simulations demonstrate the abilities of the novel transform. Optical implementation of this transform is briefly discussed.

172 REAL TIME EDGES DETECTION USING WAVELET TRANSFORM

2000

One of the way to extract edges uses the fast wavelet transform algorithm. This technique allows the detection of multiscale edges and is used to detect all the details, which are in a picture by modifying the scale. The real time application for edge detection involves the implementation of the algorithm on an integrated circuit like a FPGA and the development of an appropriated board. This article deals about the implementation of a wavelet transform algorithm onto a FPGA and development of an electronic board to detect multiscale edges.

A Mellin transform approach to wavelet analysis

2015

The paper proposes a fractional calculus approach to continuous wavelet analysis. Upon introducing a Mellin transform expression of the mother wavelet, it is shown that the wavelet transform of an arbitrary function f(t) can be given a fractional representation involving a suitable number of Riesz integrals of f(t), and corresponding fractional moments of the mother wavelet. This result serves as a basis for an original approach to wavelet analysis of linear systems under arbitrary excitations. In particular, using the proposed fractional representation for the wavelet transform of the excitation, it is found that the wavelet transform of the response can readily be computed by a Mellin tra…

Bearing fault detection for drivetrains using adaptive filters based wavelet transform

2017

Predicting a localized defect on a rolling bearing during the degradation process before a complete failure is crucial to prevent system failures, unscheduled downtimes and substantial loss of productivity. During this process, impulses associated with the fault are weak, nonstationary or time-frequency varying, and contaminated by noises, which render the problem of extracting these impulses very difficult. This work investigates the effectiveness of common signal processing techniques on predicting incipient faults, e.g. Fast Fourier transform, Short-Time Fourier transform, Wavelet transform. It was found that an adaptive filter is required to enhance and reconstruct the signals during th…

Pattern recognition using sequential matched filtering of wavelet coefficients

1997

Abstract A bank of wavelets is used for pattern recognition by means of sequential filtering. Each element of the bank is matched to a different wavelet coefficient of the target. A sequential process leads to a set of correlation outputs. Post-processing by means of a fast blending method provides the final output correlation. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented, showing the discrimination capability for this implementation.

An improved MSD-based method for PD pattern recognition

2007

In this paper a new method for multi source partial discharge (PD) pattern recognition by discrete wavelet transform, is presented. The proposed method is based on the application of multi-resolution signal decomposition (MSD) technique applied to a 3D PD pattern image. The multi-resolution technique has shown that some detail images (horizontal, vertical and diagonal) at different decomposition levels have frequencial characteristics typical of a single discharge phenomenon. By applying this method to a double-source PD pattern it is observed that one source prevails on the other. Taking advantage from the linearity of the biorthogonal wavelet functions by using a removal and reconstructio…
